Terlingua School Early 1970s
One of the last one room school houses in Texas during the 1970, Terlingua School, Terlingua Texas.
During the last two years that I taught in Terlingua the community came together and built a new three room school house. (classroom, kitchen, office, 2 indoor bathrooms)
It was built out of adobe from the earth directly behind the school.
The lumber for the roof came from an old building that was torn down in another county.
The contractor, Ken Barns was the local surveyor. Click here for photo Ken Barns.
The new school featured indoor bathrooms, a kitchen, a private office for the teacher and windows, doors and electrical outlets that worked.
The old school house became a house for the teacher.
Total cost of constuction: $10,000.00 most of which was raised by the community. Trent Jones
