Trent Jones, last teacher to teach in the old one room school standing in front of a new three room school building built in 1976.

Finally the driver approached them, mopped his brow with a red bandanna, and directed his conversation to Trent Jones. "Mister, it ain't none of my business, really, but this country looks like pure hell to me. Dammit, the fact of the matter is, I hate to leave you folks here. You give me the word and I'll turn this rig around and haul that trailer back to San Antonio and not charge you an extra dime."
Trent Jones smiled, looked at his wife and his newborn daughter she was holding. "I guess," he told the driver, "we're here to stay."
"Mister," the driver replied, making no attempt to hide his concern, ''if you aren't crazy now, you damn sure will be in another month or so."
